Unitarian minister Curtis W. ReeseW joined with John Dietrich in establishing religious humanism, what he was calling “the religion of democracy” in the 1910s. As secretary of the Western Unitarian Conference, he wielded considerable power in pushing the denomination in more humanistic directions.
