Hermann J. Muller, 1890-1967

A key figure in the mid-century humanist movement, Nobel Prize-winning geneticist Hermann Joseph MullerW served as president of the American Humanist Association and later received their Humanist of the Year award. He was a major force in the Pugwash conferences on nuclear disarmament. He embraced belief in a progressive form of eugenics, and was one of the early humanists to raise the alarm about resistance to the teaching of evolution in the public schools.
