Paul Kurtz, 1925-2012

American philosopher Paul KurtzW was one of the most influential leaders within American Humanism in the second half of the 20th century. He edited The Humanist from 1967 to 1978, established the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal in 1976, the Council for Democratic and Secular Humanism in 1980, each with their own journal, and spearheaded innumerable humanist initiatives throughout his life. Though a follower of John Dewey, he was responsible for strengthening the ties to positivism and rationalism.
